| Access | Black crag is
off Borrowdale, in the small side valley of Troutdale. Troutdale is
on the west side just before Grange. The crag is visible high at the end
of the valley. A small road runs down the valley, but this is for
residents only. So there is a car park just past is on the west side.
Walk down the small road, across a field, and Trout Beck. Then the path rises steeply to the base of the crag. |
| Comments | Black crag is
one of the finest buttresses in Borrowdale. It is steep, tall, clean, and
very solid. The left side and lower right do tend to remain damp for
longer. But you can usually find a dry way up.
The major feature of the buttress is the pinnacle. A very large nose that sticks out at about 2/3 height. The best descent is down the right side. |
| Best Routes | Grand Alliance,

Prana, 72m, E3 5c. Well protected. Troutdale Pinnacle, 105m, S. The classic of the buttress. Raindrop, 90m, E1 5b. Very direct up the pinnacle. |
