| Access | The crags are visible on the northern side of Langdale, above a barn, a few hundred meters east of the New Dungeon Ghyll hotel. There is parking below the barn, and a path leads up the fell side next to the barn. It is only a 5 minute walk up the fell. |
| Comments | Scout crag is basically 3 tiers of rock.
Lower scout, middle scout, and upper scout.
The lower scout crag is very popular with beginners and organised groups. This has made the rock very polished and the surrounding area heavily eroded. Despite this there are still a couple of worth while routes here. The boulders below the crag offer some excellent bouldering, especially the huge split block. The Middle Crag offers some harder climbing. It is very overhanging, but also very short. The overhanging nature allows it to be climbed even in heavy rain. The difficulty of placing protection has meant that most people top rope. The upper scout is the largest of the three. It is also the easiest, being at a continuous easy angle. The rock is solid and well pocketed. The ascent of lower then upper is a good approach to White Ghyll Crag across the hill. |
